Husker Harvest Days - Dive into Nebraska's Natural Resources

During the upcoming Husker Harvest Days from Sept. 12-14, attendees can engage with Nebraska’s Natural Resources Districts to gain insights on trees, water quality, erosion, and more. Dr. Orval Gigstad, the president of the Nebraska Association of Resources Districts, highlighted the event as an excellent platform for producers to connect with conservation agencies.

The Natural Resources Hub, located at 39E, is the epicenter of activity. Here, multiple organizations are ready to share about conservation assistance, cost-share plans, and other producer-focused programs. A few of the organizations present are the Nebraska Forest Service, USDA's NRCS, FSA, and the Nebraska Department of Natural Resources.

An added benefit, the Nebraska Department of Environment and Energy Water Well Standards Program, will offer free nitrate water testing. Those with private wells should come prepared with a sample.

One of the highlights is the NRD Hall of Fame induction, scheduled at 2 p.m. on Sept. 13. This occasion will honor individuals who have shown dedication to the protection of Nebraska's natural assets.

Visitors will not leave empty-handed. As a gesture of appreciation, attendees will receive a free blue spruce tree seedling and prairie grass seed. This initiative stems from the NRD Conservation Tree Program's efforts to promote local tree planting activities.
