IANR Marks 50 Years of Supporting Nebraska's Agricultural Economy

The Institute of Agriculture and Natural Resources (IANR) in Nebraska commemorated its 50th anniversary, symbolizing a half-century of unwavering dedication to Nebraska's foremost industry: agriculture.

Founded with the intention of fostering a stronger connection between the University of Nebraska's teaching, extension, and research missions, the institute has played a vital role in advancing the state's agricultural sector.

Mike Boehm, the Harlan vice chancellor for the institute and vice president of agriculture and natural resources for the university system, emphasized the institute's overarching goal of responsibly meeting the growing global demand for food, fuel, and fiber, while prioritizing the sustainable management of vital resources such as soil, water, and land.

Established in 1973 as an offshoot of the College of Agriculture and Natural Resources (CASNR), which celebrated its 150th anniversary the previous year, the IANR has embraced a comprehensive model that combines academic research and extension activities to address the critical importance of agriculture. By promoting a holistic approach to agricultural education, the institute aims to equip individuals in the field with the necessary knowledge and tools to navigate the evolving challenges and opportunities within the industry.

The 50-year milestone serves as a testament to the institute's commitment to supporting Nebraska's agricultural economy, as well as its unwavering dedication to the farmers and producers who contribute to the production of food, fuel, feed, and fiber. By integrating education, research, and outreach efforts, the IANR continues to play a crucial role in fostering sustainable agricultural practices, while adapting to the needs of a changing world.
