Nebraska Extension schedules the Calculating Annual Cow Costs Webinar Series to help producers better understand the true costs of running a cow calf enterprise. The series focuses on practical tools that support informed management decisions and long term profitability.
Knowing annual cow costs is a key step in evaluating production systems. Input costs can be difficult to review, especially when prices change. By calculating costs and dividing them into clear categories, producers gain a better understanding of where adjustments may be possible. This approach supports smarter planning and stronger financial control.
The webinar series runs from 7:30 to 9 p.m. Central time on January 29, February 2, and February 5. The sessions are designed to build knowledge step by step, helping participants understand both fixed and variable costs involved in cow calf operations.
Topics covered include understanding economic unit cost of production, recognizing the value and cost of grazed and harvested feed, and calculating cow depreciation and replacement development costs. Participants also learn how to figure out the cost of equipment and labor used in daily operations.
Additional sessions focus on examining breeding expenses and reviewing benchmark cost and production data. These comparisons help participants understand how their operation compares to others and where improvements may be made. The goal is to support better decision making through clear and accurate cost evaluation.
The webinar series costs seventy dollars per person and includes a resource workbook. Enrollment is limited to forty participants to support interactive learning. Registration is requested by January 19 so materials can be mailed on time. A computer and internet connection are required to take part in the sessions.
This educational program provides structured guidance, real world examples, and practical tools. By the end of the series, participants gain a clearer picture of their annual cow costs and feel more confident in making management decisions that support efficiency and long-term success.
