NDA's poultry photo calendar out now

By Scout Nelson

The Nebraska Department of Agriculture (NDA) has unveiled a special 2025 calendar, highlighting the winners of its annual Poultry Photo Contest. This unique calendar, available for viewing and download on the NDA’s website, not only celebrates the photographic talents of local 4-H and FFA members but also serves as an educational tool, providing vital biosecurity information to help poultry owners protect their flocks.

NDA Director Sherry Vinton praised the participants, stating, “NDA’s Poultry Photo Contest showcases the dedication of 4-H and FFA members to maintaining healthy, well-cared-for birds. We received many outstanding submissions and are excited to feature these in our 2025 calendar.”

The winners of this year’s contest include students from various Nebraska locations, whose captivating photos earned them a spot in the calendar. These students are Jacelyn Brown, Joel Brown, Kelsey Bunn, Reagan Dinger, Sofie Farr, Aaron Fuchs, Alandra Huntley, Emily Johnston, Kara Oberg, Piper Pillard, Reese Pillard, Molly Preston, and Brenna Steager.

Beyond the calendar, the NDA plans to use these winning images in promotional materials and on social media throughout the year, further extending the reach and impact of the contest.

This initiative also provides the NDA with a platform to disseminate important information on biosecurity practices essential for preventing diseases such as highly pathogenic avian influenza and Virulent/Exotic Newcastle Disease.

The NDA emphasizes the importance of rigorous biosecurity measures for all bird owners in Nebraska. For more details on protecting poultry flocks and to view or download the 2025 calendar, visitors can go to nda.nebraska.gov/animal/avian.

Additionally, in the event of a suspected disease outbreak, poultry owners are encouraged to contact their local veterinarian or the NDA directly for assistance and guidance.
