Nebraska crop harvest is underway with steady field activity across the state. For the week ending September 15, 2025, producers recorded 6.4 days suitable for fieldwork, according to the latest USDA National Agricultural Statistics Service report.
Topsoil moisture was rated 6% very short, 21% short, 66% adequate, and 7% surplus, reflecting gradual improvement from mid-summer dryness. Subsoil moisture supplies were similar, rated 6% very short, 25% short, 62% adequate, and 7% surplus.
Field Crops Report
Corn progress continued with 82% dented, trailing last year’s 90% and the five-year average of 91%. Corn maturity reached 35%, slightly behind 43% last year and 45% average. Corn harvest has begun, with 3% harvested, near the 4% mark for both last year and the five-year average. Corn condition stood at 1% very poor, 3% poor, 18% fair, 54% good, and 24% excellent, indicating generally strong crop health.
Soybeans showed 39% dropping leaves, behind 41% last year and 55% for the five-year average. Condition ratings were positive with 1% very poor, 2% poor, 19% fair, 55% good, and 23% excellent.
Sorghum reported 75% coloring, lagging behind 92% last year and 89% average. 8% of the crop was mature, below last year’s 11% and the 22% average. Sorghum harvest stood at 1%, matching both last year and the five-year average. Sorghum condition remained strong with 0% very poor, 1% poor, 14% fair, 46% good, and 39% excellent.
Winter wheat planting reached 17%, just behind 19% last year and near the five-year average of 16%.
Pasture and Range Report
Pasture and range conditions were rated 8% very poor, 13% poor, 29% fair, 39% good, and 11% excellent, reflecting continued improvement with recent moisture.
Overall, Nebraska crops show solid progress with harvest activity gaining momentum and soil moisture levels improving as the fall season begins.
