Nebraska Crops Show Steady Progress as Harvest Nears

Nebraska crops are maturing at a steady pace as the fall harvest season approaches, with corn and sorghum running slightly behind their usual development while soybeans near the end of pod set. The oat harvest is nearly complete, and dry beans are showing strong conditions heading into September.

For the week ending September 2, 2025, field conditions allowed for an average of 6.2 days suitable for work. Topsoil moisture levels were rated 4% very short, 16% short, 69% adequate, and 11% surplus. Subsoil moisture stood at 5% very short, 23% short, 64% adequate, and 8% surplus, supporting stable crop development.

Corn: Progress remains steady with 88% in the dough stage, 59% dented, and 13% mature. Crop condition was rated 49% good and 27% excellent.

Soybeans: Pod set is at 92% while 5% of plants are dropping leaves. Crop condition stood at 53% good and 21% excellent.

Sorghum: Development is slightly behind average, with 89% headed, 42% coloring, and 2% mature. Conditions were strong, with 42% good and 38% excellent.

Oats: Harvest is nearly complete at 97%, close to historical averages.

Dry Edible Beans: Progress includes 94% blooming, 82% setting pods, and 19% dropping leaves. Conditions were rated 40% good and 45% excellent.

Pasture and Range: Condition was mixed, with 4% very poor, 15% poor, 36% fair, 37% good, and 8% excellent.

Overall, Nebraska crops are holding strong with most acres rated in good to excellent condition. With favorable moisture and consistent growth, producers are preparing for harvest in the coming weeks.
