Nebraska Extension Presents Research at Farm Show

Nebraska Extension Presents Research at Farm Show

By Scout Nelson

The University of Nebraska–Lincoln, the Institute of Agriculture and Natural Resources, and Nebraska Extension will bring practical research-based solutions to Husker Harvest Days 2025. From September 9 to 11, visitors can stop by the “Big Red Building” at Lot 827 to connect with Extension specialists, educators, and researchers.

Throughout the three-day event, participants will gain insight into challenges and solutions across agriculture. Topics include landscape and weather resilience, featuring techniques such as plant selection, irrigation practices, pruning, and pest management to withstand extreme conditions.

Soil health sessions will emphasize covering crops, interseeding, and sustainable practices for stronger productivity. Digital agriculture will be explored through the Nebraska On-Farm Research Network, highlighting tools that support profitability and data-driven decision-making.

Other sessions will cover pest management and plant health, manure management to reduce fertilizer costs, and water management strategies for irrigation and drinking water protection. Livestock health will also be featured, focusing on disease prevention, early detection, and nutrition to improve herd productivity.

Nebraska Extension will further highlight rural prosperity, including community development and support for local food systems, as well as agricultural profitability, with financial tools from the Center for Agricultural Profitability. Leadership development opportunities will also be shared through the Nebraska LEAD program.

For youth, Nebraska 4-H, the Nebraska College of Technical Agriculture, and UNL’s College of Agricultural and Natural Resources will showcase career preparation and employability programs. AgrAbility resources will also be available to support individuals with disabilities in agriculture.

Hands-on activities continue with the Crop Skills Challenge at Lot 928, where participants can take part in virtual Testing Ag Performance Solutions (TAPS) competitions, pest and herbicide identification, spray table demonstrations, and interactive equipment experiences. Visitors can also enjoy UNL Dairy Store ice cream and view the UNL Quarter-Scale Pulling Tractor.

Nebraska Extension invites all Husker Harvest Days attendees to engage with experts and explore innovative strategies designed to strengthen farm operations, rural communities, and future agricultural leaders.
