The Nebraska USDA Farm Service Agency (FSA) is collaborating with the University of Nebraska-Lincoln’s Center for Agricultural Profitability (CAP) to provide a pivotal educational webinar for commodity crop producers.
This webinar, scheduled for January 30, 2025, at 12:00 p.m. CT, aims to guide producers through the Agriculture Risk Coverage (ARC) and Price Loss Coverage (PLC) programs for the upcoming crop year.
The ARC and PLC programs are critical components of the USDA's safety net, designed to support producers during fluctuations in crop revenue or prices. With the signup period open until April 15, 2025, the webinar offers timely assistance for producers preparing to make their program elections and complete the enrollment process.
Dillon Breinig, a specialist in production and compliance programs, along with Brad Lubben, an extension policy specialist in agricultural economics, will lead the presentation. They will discuss the nuances of the ARC and PLC programs, highlighting how recent changes in commodity prices could influence decision-making for the 2025 season.
The webinar is an essential resource for farmers, agricultural professionals, and stakeholders who are navigating the complexities of these programs. Registration is free and available online, providing participants with an opportunity to gain in-depth knowledge about the program mechanics and the strategic considerations for enrollment.
As the 2018 Farm Bill continues to influence these programs, understanding the specific details and requirements is crucial for maximizing their benefits. The ARC program provides income support based on historical revenue shortfalls, while the PLC program compensates for price drops below designated thresholds.
Producers have the flexibility to choose the most suitable coverage for their operations, with options including ARC-County, PLC on a crop-by-crop basis, or ARC-Individual for entire farms.
Given the importance of these decisions, the Nebraska FSA strongly encourages participants to review their past program elections and consider their current agricultural and economic circumstances when making 2025 elections. This webinar serves as an invaluable tool to assist in these critical decisions, ensuring that producers are well-prepared to utilize the safety nets effectively to protect their farming operations in the coming year.
