Nebraska Launches LLC Online Course for Farmers

By Scout Nelson

The Nebraska Women in Agriculture program, in collaboration with the Center for Agricultural Profitability at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, has launched a new online course titled “LLCs for Nebraska Farms and Ranches.” The course is designed to help farm and ranch families make informed decisions about whether forming a Limited Liability Company (LLC) is the right choice for their business. It also guides them on how to manage existing LLCs effectively.

“Whether you're exploring LLCs as a new business structure for your farm or ranch or looking to better manage your existing LLC, this course offers practical guidance tailored to the unique needs of Nebraska producers,” said Jessica Groskopf, director of the Nebraska Women in Agriculture program.

Participants will learn how to:

  • Decide if an LLC is suitable for their farm or ranch operation.
  • Navigate the process, steps, and costs of forming an LLC in Nebraska.
  • Identify and avoid common legal and tax errors through proper business management.

The course offers short video interviews with attorneys, accountants, and agriculture professionals, along with checklists, worksheets, and links to podcasts and articles covering specialized topics. This multi-format approach ensures participants gain practical knowledge they can apply directly to their operations.

The course fee is $150 per person, and enrollees will have access for 90 days from the date of registration. Enrollment is available online, making it convenient for participants across Nebraska.

This program is supported by USDA/NIFA under Award Number 2024-70027-42470. It is open to all participants regardless of race, gender, or any other protected status. The course aims to empower farm and ranch families to make informed business decisions, strengthen operations, and avoid costly mistakes when using an LLC as a business structure.

By participating, producers will gain confidence in managing their LLCs while improving the long-term profitability and sustainability of their farms and ranches.
