Nebraska pork producers strengthening local communities

Nebraska pork producers strengthening local communities

By Scout Nelson

In Nebraska, the pork industry, represented by the Nebraska Pork Producers Association (NPPA), plays a crucial role in supporting and enhancing local communities. Embracing the ethos of the We Care Initiative, NPPA focuses on community as a key aspect of its operations.

Annually, NPPA engages in several events and sponsorships across Nebraska, from major cities to smaller communities. Their notable initiative, "Give A Ham," sees over 3,200 pounds of hams and pork loins distributed to help combat food insecurity in areas like Omaha, Lincoln, Kearney, and others. This initiative showcases the pork industry's commitment to social responsibility.

Another significant event is "Pinot, Pigs and Pours" in Omaha. This culinary event, centered around pork, raises funds for Completely Kids, providing food to children every weekend. Since 2010, this event has raised over $3 million, underlining the pork industry's dedication to community welfare.

Beyond these, NPPA sponsors various local projects, targeting a wide array of community needs such as literacy, cancer benefits, historical renovations, and supporting athletic programs. Their efforts extend to enhancing local childcare, aiding fire departments, and addressing food insecurity with great vigor.

These initiatives by NPPA exemplify how the agricultural sector can significantly impact local communities through dedicated and focused efforts. The Nebraska Pork Producers Association's work goes beyond agricultural production, embedding itself deeply into the fabric of community support and development in Nebraska.
