The University of Nebraska Lincoln HealthierU program is partnering with Robinette Farms to improve access to fresh, locally sourced foods for university employees through a new subscription box program connected to the 2026 Mayor’s Local Food Challenge.
The partnership is designed to encourage healthier eating habits while supporting Nebraska farmers, food producers, and local businesses. Through the program, faculty and staff members can order weekly subscription boxes containing locally grown produce, meats, dairy products, baked goods, coffees, and other Nebraska-made foods.
Program organizers will host a webinar at 2 p.m. on May 28 to explain how the subscription system works and help participants register online. During the 45-minute session, HealthierU officials and representatives from Robinette Farms will discuss the history of the local produce box program, how weekly ordering works, and how participants can customize food selections based on their needs and schedules. Registration information and subscription details are available on the HealthierU webpage.
The City Campus Recreation Center has been selected as the official pickup location for the weekly subscription boxes. The program officially begins May 29, while the first food box pickup is scheduled from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. on June 4. Organizers believe the convenient campus location will help university employees access fresh foods more easily during the workweek.
The subscription service does not require membership fees, although weekly orders must include at least $35 in purchases. Participants can adjust, skip, or customize their weekly food orders depending on personal preferences and schedules.
Robinette Farms works with more than 30 local farmers and food artisans across Nebraska to provide a variety of products. Weekly subscription boxes may include organic vegetables, fresh greens, breads, meats, dairy products, pantry items, and specialty local foods.
HealthierU officials said the partnership is part of a larger effort to support employee wellness, encourage community involvement, and improve sustainable food access across the university community. The initiative also helps strengthen Nebraska’s local food system by connecting consumers directly with regional growers and agricultural producers.
