In August, Nebraska Governor Jim Pillen, alongside U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) officials, announced a landmark $307 million EPA grant aimed at boosting the state’s agricultural sector. This funding will help farmers and ranchers enhance energy efficiency, adopt sustainable farming practices, and address climate change challenges.
"Allow producers to innovate and improve practices so we make things better," said Governor Pillen. The funding was initially expected to be available by October, but state officials are still waiting for specific instructions on how to access the money.
Pillen also mentioned that Nebraska is awaiting a separate $200 million grant from the U.S. Department of Agriculture. This funding is intended to support rural communities as they transition to cleaner, more reliable energy sources. Pillen highlighted the transformative nature of these grants, calling them a significant investment in the future of Nebraska agriculture.
"It's a once-in-a-generation opportunity for Nebraska agriculture," said Asksarben Foundation.
