Nebraska Shares on Farm Research Results

By Scout Nelson

Nebraska Extension has scheduled the 2026 On Farm Research Results meeting for the Panhandle to share the latest findings from local grower research projects. The meeting will take place from 8:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. on Thursday, February 26, at the Knight Museum, located at 908 Yellowstone Avenue in Alliance.

The event will focus on results from 2025 on farm research trials conducted across the Panhandle region. Topics include a dry bean variety trial, three-year findings from dry bean inoculant studies, and three-year results from Pod Ceal dry bean harvest aid research. Additional studies featured at the meeting include a black-eyed pea population project and two compost tea trials on winter wheat.

Participants will also hear a presentation on Palmer amaranth management from a specialist with the Panhandle Research and Extension Center. This session will highlight current challenges and practical strategies for managing this difficult weed in crop production systems.

Attendees will receive the Nebraska Extension on Farm Research Results for publication. The meeting will also review research from across the state related to covering crops, crop production, soil fertility, soil management, equipment use, and crop protection, with a focus on how these findings apply to Panhandle conditions.

The meeting is free to attend and includes lunch. Advance registration is requested by calling 308 762 5616 to help organizers plan meals and materials.

The Nebraska Extension on Farm Research Network is a statewide program built in collaboration between Extension faculty and local producers. Its goal is to address current challenges while also preparing future issues through replicated, field-based research. The program provides practical results that can be applied directly within Nebraska agriculture.
