Nebraska's dairy scholarship stars shine bright

By Scout Nelson

The Midwest Dairy Nebraska Division is proud to announce the award of $5,000 in scholarships to six deserving students for the 2024-2025 academic year. These students, hailing from various parts of Nebraska, have demonstrated exceptional leadership within their educational, local, and dairy communities.

Scholarships were awarded to students deeply involved in the dairy industry, either through family-owned farms or employment in dairy operations. This initiative reflects Midwest Dairy's commitment to fostering future leaders and advocates within the dairy sector.

This year's recipients include:

  • Kaitlyn Hanson of Mead, who is studying Animal Science at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln.
  • Allison Engelman of Diller, pursuing Agriculture Education at the same university.
  • Shan Sherwood of Lincoln, who is working towards his master’s in Animal Science.
  • Makenna Held of Leigh, enrolled in Business Management.
  • Brooke Hilgenkamp of Arlington, studying Animal Science at Kansas State University.
  • Halie Racicky of Mason City, who is majoring in Early Childhood Education at the University of Nebraska at Kearney.

These students have not only excelled academically but have also articulated clear visions on how they plan to address challenges within the dairy industry through their future careers.

Their contributions are vital as the dairy sector navigates the complexities of modern agricultural demands and continues to contribute significantly to the agricultural fabric of Nebraska and beyond.
