Promoting ag careers in Nebraska

By Scout Nelson

The Nebraska Department of Agriculture proudly supports the Nebraska Agricultural Youth Council (NAYC), a vibrant assembly of college students dedicated to advancing agriculture across the state. The 2024-2025 Council comprises some of Nebraska's most promising young leaders, who share a deep commitment to agricultural education and advocacy.

NAYC's activities are extensive and varied, involving agricultural business tours, educational sessions in schools, and direct outreach to students about careers in agriculture. These efforts culminate in organizing the Nebraska Agricultural Youth Institute (NAYI), a significant summer conference that fosters connections among high school students and industry leaders through workshops and seminars.

NAYI, celebrating its 54th year, holds the distinction of being the nation’s longest-running agricultural conference for youth, supported by numerous sponsors committed to fostering the next generation of agricultural professionals.

This year's council leadership includes students from diverse backgrounds, each bringing unique insights and enthusiasm to their roles. Their collective efforts focus on enhancing the industry's visibility and appeal to young Nebraskans, illustrating the crucial impact of agriculture on quality of life and economic vitality in the region.

Under the guidance of experienced professionals, council members gain invaluable experience in leadership and community engagement, preparing them to be the future proponents of Nebraska's agricultural sector.

Through initiatives like NAYI and various outreach programs, the NAYC plays a pivotal role in educating young people about agriculture's significance and opportunities, ensuring the continued prosperity and sustainability of the industry in Nebraska.
