R-CALF USA Gains Momentum with Successful Fundraising Drive

Midwest auction markets supported the independent cattle industry by hosting two successful calf sale fundraisers. Brett Galbraith donated a heifer calf at Valentine Livestock Auction, raising funds for R-CALF USA, while Dean and Delia Johnson donated a yearling steer at Ft. Pierre Livestock Auction, further boosting the organization's finances.

R-CALF USA won over $42,000 in two auctions, securing essential inclusions in the 2023 Farm Bill. Their priorities include mandatory MCOOL for beef, beef checkoff program reform, packer competition, ending meatpacker ownership, and ending unpriced formula contracts allowing meatpackers to control livestock.

R-CALF USA President Brett Kenzy expressed gratitude to Greg Arendt of Valentine Livestock Auction and Dennis and Bryan Hanson of Ft. Pierre Livestock Auction, acknowledging their consistent support for the organization and the independent cattle industry.

Field Director Karina Jones praised the supportive business community and cattle producers who contributed with great generosity. She emphasized the importance of calf sale fundraisers as a crucial funding source for R-CALF USA, as the organization does not accept any beef checkoff funds. Instead, they rely solely on their dedicated members who share their policy goals and vision for the industry's future.

Beyond the financial support, calf sale fundraisers also serve as valuable membership-building tools, bolstering R-CALF USA's strong and growing member base. The organization is already planning its 2023-24 Calf Sale Fundraisers.

Auction markets interested in hosting a fundraiser or producers willing to donate animals are encouraged to reach out to Karina Jones at 308-760-3466 or via email at karinajones@r-calfusa.com.

The success of these Midwest calf sale fundraisers shows the collective dedication of the agricultural community in advancing the independent cattle industry's interests and ensuring a prosperous future for American farmers.
