Six Nebraska Students Receive PGA Works Scholarships

By Scout Nelson

Six students from the University of Nebraska–Lincoln’s PGA Golf Management program has been awarded scholarships through the PGA WORKS John and Tamara Lundgren Scholars Program. These scholarships highlight the students’ academic achievements, leadership, and dedication to careers in the golf industry.

The $8,000 scholarships are given to students working toward PGA of America membership through one of 16 accredited PGA Golf Management programs in the United States. This year, 15 students nationwide were selected, with Nebraska standing out by producing six of the recipients.

“We couldn’t be prouder of our students,” said Joe Canny, director of Nebraska’s program. “To have six of the 15 scholarship recipients come from Nebraska speaks volumes about their talent, work ethic and commitment to the game. It also reflects the strength of our program and the opportunities it provides for students to grow into future leaders of the golf industry.”

The Nebraska recipients are:

  • Isabella Boyle, Sioux City, Iowa, senior
  • Mason McKenna, Olathe, Kansas, senior
  • Chase Triebenbach, Osakis, Minnesota, senior
  • Peyton Cusick, Ballwin, Missouri, junior
  • Alexander Henbest, Manahawkin, New Jersey, junior
  • Atirath Roy, New Delhi, India, senior

PGA WORKS is designed to expand opportunities for students from diverse backgrounds, preparing them for leadership roles in the golf industry. Since 2018, the program has awarded 108 scholarships totaling $864,000.

Students noted the importance of internships, networking, and professional growth as key parts of their education. Boyle highlighted how 16 months of internships gave her valuable experience and career direction. Triebenbach emphasized that connections in the industry are essential for internships and future career opportunities.

Scholarship recipients were chosen based on academic record, leadership roles, honors, work experience, personal circumstances, and commitment to the game. The recognition not only provides financial support but also positions recipients for success in golf industry careers.
