Stay alert for ag equipment on roads this harvest season

Stay alert for ag equipment on roads this harvest season

As harvest season is in full swing, the Nebraska State Patrol emphasizes the importance of road safety, especially around agricultural equipment. Capt. Martin Denton, the commander of the patrol’s carrier enforcement, issued a reminder in a recent press release for motorists to stay alert for “slow-moving” agricultural machinery.

Nebraska agricultural producers have harvest permits for transporting their products to market. However, the size and weight of their equipment can reduce operator visibility. Capt. Denton emphasizes the need for caution when approaching, following, or passing farm vehicles.

To maintain safety, haulers are advised to conduct pre-trip inspections, adhere to traffic safety laws, display appropriate warning signs on machinery, and utilize flashing yellow caution lights while traveling. These precautions are essential to prevent any untoward incidents on the road and ensure a smooth flow of traffic during this busy time.

The Nebraska State Patrol remains committed to enforcing road safety and encourages both drivers and ag equipment operators to be watchful and cooperative.

By staying alert and following safety guidelines, everyone can contribute to making Nebraska’s roads safer during the harvest season, protecting both the agricultural community and the traveling public.
