Nebraska Extension has announced the availability of the 2024 nutrient management calendars, a crucial tool for livestock and cropping operations. This user-friendly calendar is designed to assist in maintaining manure-related records, which is a key requirement for livestock operations in the State of Nebraska.
The calendar is versatile, catering to all sizes of livestock operations, and meets the record-keeping requirements of the National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System (NPDES). It is useful for both small-scale and large-scale operations, from those with just a couple of animals to those with thousands.
One of the key features of this calendar is its ability to track manure application rates. This is essential for maximizing crop nutrient value from manure while demonstrating environmental responsibility.
The tool's effectiveness has been acknowledged by both the Nebraska Department of Environment and Energy (NDEE) and the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), marking it as a significant resource for livestock producers.
The calendars are available at no cost and can be obtained by contacting Leslie Johnson. An electronic sample of the calendar is also accessible online for those interested in a digital preview.
Leslie Johnson, an animal manure management extension educator, welcomes any inquiries about the calendar. Suggestions for future editions are also encouraged, ensuring that this resource continues to meet the evolving needs of livestock operations in Nebraska.
The calendar not only assists in record-keeping but also supports the overarching goal of sustainable and responsible farm management.
