Americans Back Ethanol for Energy Independence

Americans Back Ethanol for Energy Independence

By Jamie Martin

A recent nationwide poll shows that renewable fuels continue to gain support among American voters. The survey found strong backing for ethanol and the Renewable Fuel Standard (RFS), a policy designed to increase the use of renewable fuels in the transportation sector.

The results indicate that renewable fuels are widely viewed as important for the country's energy future. Most voters said energy independence is a priority, and many believe fuels such as ethanol can help reduce dependence on foreign energy sources.

Support for the Renewable Fuel Standard reached a record high in the survey. Respondents also expressed support for government efforts to ensure compliance with renewable fuel blending requirements. These findings highlight growing public confidence in renewable fuel policies.

"As Americans celebrate our nation's independence this Fourth of July, these poll results send a clear message: voters recognize that American-made renewable fuels like ethanol strengthen our energy security, support domestic jobs, and help reduce our reliance on foreign energy,” said RFA President and CEO Geoff Cooper.

He continued, “Record-high support for the Renewable Fuel Standard reflects a growing understanding that homegrown, affordable renewable fuels are essential to America's energy future and economic strength."

Ethanol received positive ratings from a large majority of survey participants. Affordability and American production were identified as two of the most important reasons for favorable opinions. Many voters see renewable fuels as a practical energy solution that supports both consumers and domestic industries.

Fuel prices remain a significant concern across the country. Most respondents reported worries about gasoline price swings, while many said rising fuel costs could influence their future voting decisions.

The survey also examined the impact of international events on energy attitudes. Many participants said recent global conflicts increased their support for policies that encourage the use of American-made renewable fuels. In comparison, interest in electric vehicles remained divided among voters.

Another key finding was strong support for flex-fuel vehicles that can operate on higher blends of ethanol. Respondents indicated that promoting these vehicles could help expand fuel choices and strengthen the role of renewable energy.
