Carsten Loseke, a 21-year-old passionate about agriculture, has been named the 2023 Nebraska Cattlemen Beef State Scholar, further solidifying his commitment to the industry.
Growing up on his family's feedlot operation in rural Columbus, Carsten has cultivated a deep connection to agriculture. Currently a senior at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, majoring in agricultural economics and minoring in animal science, he continues to pursue his educational journey in the field.
Carsten's dedication to agriculture is evident through his involvement in various leadership positions. He has been an active participant in 4-H and Future Farmers of America (FFA), assuming leadership roles in both organizations. From being a member of the Silver Star 4-H Club to serving as its president in high school, Carsten has exemplified his commitment to agricultural education and community engagement. Additionally, he held officer positions during his junior and senior years at Lakeview High School FFA.
As the recipient of the Nebraska Beef State Scholar recognition, Carsten will be awarded a prestigious $10,000 scholarship. He, along with other scholarship recipients from the Nebraska Cattlemen Foundation, will be honored at the Cattlemen's midyear meeting on June 8.
The Nebraska Beef State Scholar program is open to Nebraska residents enrolled at a Nebraska college or university, including juniors, seniors, and graduate-level students. The application process involved submitting a letter of intent, a letter of recommendation, and an interview for the finalists.
Carsten's commitment to the agricultural industry extends beyond his academic pursuits. He has previously interned with Cactus Feeders at a feedlot in Kansas, gaining practical experience in the field. Additionally, Carsten is slated to serve as a superintendent for the Platte County Beef Show, building upon his previous experience as a superintendent at a different fair event.
