Cheyenne County 4H Important Dates

By Scout Nelson

Cheyenne County 4‑H members and volunteers have several important dates and events to plan for in 2026. Staying organized ensures participation, adherence to deadlines, and successful involvement in 4‑H programs.

The year begins with a Dryland Toughies club meeting on Sunday, January 11, at the Elston House starting at 4:30 pm. This meeting provides members an opportunity to plan activities, discuss projects, and strengthen teamwork.

The next day, Monday, January 12, the 4‑H Council Meeting will be held at the Cheyenne County Fairgrounds at 6:30 pm. Council meetings are essential for volunteer and member representation, policy discussions, and program planning.

For younger participants, the Clover Kids program takes place on Friday, January 23, at the Sidney Public Library from 1:30 to 2:30 pm. This session is designed to introduce children to 4‑H activities in a fun, educational setting.

Livestock management events are also scheduled early in the year. The Beef weigh-in occurs on Saturday, February 7, at the Cheyenne County Fairgrounds beginning at 8:00 am. Later, the Sheep and Goat weigh-in is scheduled for Thursday, May 14, at 6:00 pm at the same location. These weigh-ins are critical for fair eligibility and project tracking.

Key deadlines for 4‑H enrollment and fair participation include the returning volunteer enrollment deadline on Sunday, March 15, at 11:59 pm, the member enrollment deadline and ownership affidavits due Monday, June 15, by 5:00 pm, and the fair entry forms due Monday, July 6, by 5:00 pm. Meeting these deadlines ensures smooth participation in 4‑H programs, contests, and events.

By following this schedule, members, volunteers, and parents can stay informed and actively participate in educational, livestock, and community activities throughout 2026. Planning ahead helps support learning, responsibility, and youth engagement in agriculture and leadership programs.
