Esteemed Horsemanship Clinic Held at LTC

Students and equine enthusiasts were back in the saddle for the Sherman Tegtmeier Reining and Horsemanship Clinic held at the Livestock Teaching Center (LTC). For the past decade, Tegtmeier, a certified trainer with the National Reining Horse Association, has taught students and various area riders and observers here at NCTA in Curtis.

Attending were 16 NCTA Ranch Horse team members, 4 NCTA equine students, 2 youth riders, and 16 adult participants for a total of 38 clinic spots completed this weekend.

Joanna Hergenreder, Associate Professor of Animal Science and NCTA Ranch Horse Team coach explained the value of his training, "Sherman is simply one of the very best trainers and renowned non-pro coaches in the business. He not only teaches you reining, but he also teaches horsemanship. He has an incredible ability to build a rider's confidence while also encouraging each to expand their comfort zone. He is fun and so very welcoming."

Many participants stated their enthusiasm saying, "I can't wait to come back!" They will have the opportunity to do just that with a spring clinic planned to help prepare the NCTA team for Nationals in April.

You may view videotaped sessions of the clinic on the NCTA Ranch Horse Team's Facebook page.
