Explore 2024 Nebraska soybean field days new formats

By Scout Nelson

The 2024 Soybean Management Field Days, hosted by the Nebraska Soybean Board (NSB) and Nebraska Extension, are set for August 13 to 16. These days offer an exceptional opportunity for farmers to learn about the latest in soybean production, engage with the new Soybean Testing Ag Performance Solutions (TAPS) contest, and network with other agricultural professionals.

This year, the event showcases two different formats to cater to diverse learning preferences. Evening sessions from August 13 to 15 will cover locally relevant topics and foster interactive discussions.

The field days will culminate on August 16 with a mid-morning session that includes a tour highlighting the TAPS contest and engaging discussions about the findings and methodologies.

NSB's executive director, Andy Chvatal, emphasizes the importance of adapting the field days to ensure they remain relevant and profitable for attendees.

According to Chvatal, incorporating evening sessions and introducing the TAPS competition are significant enhancements that provide new ways for farmers to connect and share knowledge.

Attendance is free, thanks to the support from the Nebraska Soybean Board, with meals and refreshments provided.

Attendees are encouraged to pre-register to assist with meal planning. The detailed schedule includes evening programs at various locations, such as Holdrege, Neligh, and Ulysses, each featuring unique topics from pest management to irrigation techniques.

The event concludes with a comprehensive session at the UNL Eastern NE Research, Extension & Education Center in Mead, NE. This session will cover the TAPS plots, participant decision-making processes, and ongoing soybean gall midge research.

Experts from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, including agronomists and plant disease specialists, will be available to address queries and assist with crop problem identification, ensuring a hands-on learning experience for all participants.
