The Nebraska Soybean Board (NSB) presents a unique opportunity for soybean farmers in Nebraska. NSB is seeking applicants for one of Nebraska’s four director positions on the United Soybean Board (USB), for a three-year term. Andy Chvatal, NSB executive director, encourages Nebraska soybean farmers to apply, emphasizing the significant role they play in U.S. agriculture's success.
USB, a group of 77 volunteer farmer-leaders, aims to boost the value of soy checkoff investments by focusing on research, education, and promotion in infrastructure, health, nutrition, and innovation. Under the USDA's Soybean Promotion, Research, and Consumer Information Act, USB is overseen.
Eligibility for application is open to all check-off-paying soybean producers in Nebraska. The selection process involves the Nebraska Soybean Board district directors submitting a first and second preferred nominee to the USDA for consideration. The Secretary of Agriculture will finalize the appointment.
USDA’s policy ensures inclusivity in its boards and committees, welcoming all individuals irrespective of race, color, national origin, gender, religion, age, disability, political beliefs, sexual orientation, and marital or family status.
Interested farmers need to submit a USDA Background Information Form by March 15, 2024. To obtain this form and for more information, farmers can contact Andy Chvatal at the Nebraska Soybean Board office at 402-441-3240.
This initiative represents a chance for local soybean farmers to leave a lasting impact on the soybean industry and U.S. agriculture at large.
