Local Food & Healthy Farms Conference

Local Food & Healthy Farms Conference

By Scout Nelson

Registration is now open for the 2024 Local Food and Healthy Farms Conference, happening from January 25-27 at Columbus, NE's River’s Edge Conference Center. Hosted by the Nebraska Sustainable Ag Society, this annual event has been a cornerstone for farmers to share expertise and foster connections for over four decades.

In partnership with the University of Nebraska Extension and Nebraska specialty crop growers, this year’s conference promises a dynamic and comprehensive experience for attendees invested in farming and local food systems. The focus is on learning, connecting, and collaborating to build a more resilient food future.

Conference Highlights:

  • Over 30 sessions covering various agricultural and local food system topics.
  • New pre-conference workshops offering in-depth training in regional food systems, communication, and farm/ranch resources.
  • Keynotes from Nancy Williams of No More Empty Pots in Omaha and Michael Foley of Green Uprising Farm.
  • Ample networking opportunities for farmers, researchers, sponsors, and consumers.

Registration costs $80 per day or $150 for both days, inclusive of meals and access to all events. Scholarships are available, and registration ends on January 13, 2024.

Supported by multiple sponsors, including Grain Place Foods/Foundation and the Center for Rural Affairs, this conference is a pivotal platform for sustainable agriculture practices and networking opportunities among farmers statewide.
