Nebraska Farm Bureau members gathered at the State Capitol to present their 2025 policy priorities, focusing on strengthening the agricultural industry and addressing economic challenges. These efforts aim to ensure long-term growth and stability for Nebraska’s farmers and ranchers.
During the Legislative Conference, members met with senators to discuss urgent issues. Among the top concerns was balancing the state budget, as Nebraska faces a projected $432 million revenue shortfall. Farm Bureau members stressed the importance of controlling state and local spending to prevent further financial strain.
Another priority is property tax relief, with taxes increasing by $300 million annually. The organization is advocating for reforms to ease financial burdens on agricultural, residential, and commercial property owners.
Additionally, members pushed for streamlined livestock facility permitting to ensure fair and efficient regulations for livestock barns and feedlots. This would support responsible industry growth while maintaining environmental standards.
Beyond these core priorities, Farm Bureau members highlighted other key issues, including investments in bioeconomy, expanding renewable energy, and reducing regulatory burdens to promote agricultural sustainability.
On the federal level, members urged Congress to focus on renewing tax cuts, expanding international trade, and passing a new Farm Bill to enhance crop insurance, trade, and conservation programs.
"Nebraska Farm Bureau and its members appreciate the Nebraska Legislature’s dedication and are committed to working together on these and other critical issues to strengthen Nebraska’s agricultural industry and the state’s economy,” said McHargue.
With more than 56,000 members statewide, Nebraska Farm Bureau continues its advocacy for policies that support both rural and urban communities, reinforcing agriculture as a key driver of the state’s economy.
