Nebraska boosts local food supply with $2.5M USDA grants

By Scout Nelson

Nebraska is partnering with the USDA to disperse $2.5 million in grants to strengthen its food supply chain. The initiative aims to improve equipment and infrastructure for food and farm businesses, reaching various sectors like nonprofits, local governments, schools, and hospitals. NDA Director Sherry Vinton emphasizes the importance of a robust supply chain for food security.

Starting December 1, 2023, the grants will become available, focusing on enhancing post-harvest food crop activities leading up to retail sale. A key event on December 6 in Kearney offers more insight and networking opportunities for interested parties. This funding excludes meat and poultry due to their coverage under other USDA programs.
