The latest crop progress and condition report from the USDA's National Agricultural Statistics Service highlights a productive week in Nebraska, with 4.3 days suitable for fieldwork as of June 2, 2024.
Soil Moisture Levels:
- Topsoil moisture is well-distributed with 3% very short, 11% short, 74% adequate, and 12% surplus.
- Subsoil moisture follows a similar pattern, marked at 4% very short, 17% short, 70% adequate, and 9% surplus.
Crop Specific Reports:
- Corn: The condition is largely favorable with 59% rated good and 21% excellent. Planting completion stands at 96%, consistent with the five-year average, with 79% emerged.
- Soybeans: Planting is nearly complete at 90%, with 64% of the crop emerged.
- Winter Wheat: Shows strong progress with 72% headed, surpassing both last year’s and the average pace. The overall condition is predominantly good to excellent.
- Sorghum: Planting progress is at 52%, slightly trailing the five-year average.
- Oats: A robust 95% has emerged, and 37% has headed well ahead of historical averages.
- Dry Edible Beans: Planting is at 30%, significantly ahead of last year’s pace.
Pasture and Range Conditions:
- Conditions are mostly positive with 59% good and 11% excellent, supporting strong pasture growth.
This report underlines the overall positive agricultural conditions in Nebraska, setting a hopeful tone for this year's harvest outcomes.
