In 2024, Nebraska Extension is set to provide essential training for both new and recertifying chemigators. Chemigation, the process of applying agrichemicals through irrigation systems, presents both advantages and environmental responsibilities.
This technique ensures uniform application, enables easy soil incorporation, and minimizes soil compaction compared to traditional methods.
Recognizing the environmental sensitivity of chemigation, Nebraska mandates proper training and certification for individuals involved in this practice. To chemigate, one must possess a personal license, underscoring the importance of individual responsibility in this area.
Training for chemigation is available in two formats: face-to-face events and online courses. These options cater to all individuals, whether they are obtaining certification for the first time or renewing it. Both training methods include an examination, which candidates must pass to achieve certification. This certification is valid for four years.
To facilitate access to training, dates, locations, and registration details for the 2024 face-to-face sessions are readily available online. It's worth noting that the schedule may expand with additional sessions in the future.
Over the past year, a dedicated team of extension educators and specialists has been updating the chemigation training curriculum. This overhaul includes a new manual and the development of informative videos, enhancing the overall learning experience.
For those interested in chemigation training, whether for new certification or recertification, Nebraska Extension provides a comprehensive program tailored to the safe and effective use of chemigation techniques in agriculture.
