Nebraska soybean board seeks new farmer-leaders for key districts

Nebraska soybean board seeks new farmer-leaders for key districts

By Scout Nelson

The Nebraska Soybean Board (NSB) is calling for soybean farmers in Districts 1, 3, and 6 to step forward as leaders. This opportunity, which began on December 1 and ends on April 15, aims to bring fresh perspectives to the NSB.

Districts 1, 3, and 6 encompass a range of counties including Antelope, Boyd, Cedar, and several others. These districts are pivotal in Nebraska's soybean industry. Andy Chvatal, NSB's executive director, emphasizes the importance of farmer leadership in driving the industry forward.

Candidates must meet specific qualifications, including Nebraska residency, a minimum of five years as a soybean farmer, and the collection of 20 signatures from fellow farmers within their district. The application process involves obtaining and submitting a candidacy petition through the NSB office.

Selected district directors will have various responsibilities. They will participate in decision-making, uphold NSB's core values, attend annual board meetings, engage in trade missions, and serve on strategic committees. This three-year term offers a platform to influence agricultural practices and policies directly.

The NSB highlights the critical role of these positions in shaping the soybean industry's future. Farmers residing in the election districts will receive ballots and candidate information via direct mail, ensuring a transparent and inclusive election process.

This initiative by the NSB represents a significant opportunity for soybean farmers in Nebraska to contribute to the agricultural community and influence the trajectory of their industry.
