The Center for Agricultural Profitability at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln is organizing Returning to the Farm 2025, a workshop series designed to assist families in transitioning new generations into farm or ranch operations. The program begins with an in-person workshop on March 7-8 at Central Community College in Hastings, Nebraska, and continues with two virtual follow-up sessions.
This workshop aims to support multi-generational families in developing financial plans and establishing effective working relationships. Participants will gain insights into estate and transition planning, goal setting, and improving family communication. Experts from extension services, agribusiness, and legal fields will lead sessions on key topics, including:
- Strategies for better communication
- Personal and professional goal setting
- Developing a transition plan for farm or ranch operations
- Identifying estate planning challenges and solution
- Assessing financial feasibility and utilizing financial tools
“Returning to the Farm gives families the tools and resources to have a successful transition with more family joining the business,” said extension educator Jessica Groskopf. “We really want to have two or three generations come to this together and take that time, as a family, to sit down, learn together and start these important processes.”
The registration fee is $75 per person until February 28, increasing to $85 from March 1. The fee includes meals during the in-person workshop and access to virtual follow-up sessions.
