Scottsbluff Hosts Farm Transition Workshop

Scottsbluff Hosts Farm Transition Workshop

By Scout Nelson

On January 28, Nebraska Extension is hosting a valuable workshop dedicated to transition planning for farmers and ranchers. The event, set to run from 12:30 to 3:30 p.m., will take place at the Panhandle Research, Extension, and Education Center in Scottsbluff.

This session is aimed at equipping agricultural professionals with the necessary tools and knowledge to effectively manage estate and succession planning.

Jessica Groskopf, a seasoned Nebraska Extension Educator, will lead the workshop. Her presentation will cover essential strategies for creating actionable transition plans, while also highlighting the common pitfalls that complicate the estate planning process.

Groskopf emphasizes the importance of not only recognizing the need for a robust transition plan but also ensuring it is legally documented. “The most frequent feedback we receive is that attendees wish they had started the process sooner,” Groskopf noted, stressing the proactive nature of the workshop.

Following the educational presentation, attendees will have the unique opportunity to engage directly with local attorneys Libbey Stobel and Rick Ediger.

Both experts will be on hand to answer specific legal questions and offer further advice on the nuances of estate and succession planning. This interaction aims to provide clarity and direct support for attendees navigating the complexities of legal documentation.

The workshop is open to all farmers and ranchers interested in securing their agricultural legacy. While the event is free, participants are required to register by January 27 to secure their spot.

The workshop organizers caution that the event may be subject to cancellation if pre-registration numbers do not meet the necessary threshold.

This proactive educational initiative is part of Nebraska Extension’s commitment to supporting the agricultural community through accessible, expert-led programming that fosters long-term sustainability and success in farming and ranching operations.
