Students from Omaha's Meadows Elementary School gathered to celebrate four sixth graders as winners of the Nebraska Department of Transportation's (NDOT) "Name a Snowplow" Contest. As an added highlight, the prizes were delivered by two of the snowplows emblazoned with the winning names. Jim Laughlin, NDOT's District 2 Operations and Maintenance Manager, presented the prizes.
Macy Yochum submitted the name Snowbi-Wan Kenobi, Max Dafferner submitted the name Velociplower, Hazel Zamarrippa submitted the name Plowabunga, and Gabby Novotny submitted the name Snow Big Deal. Three of the winners were present to receive a prize box and a letter from NDOT Director John Selmer, congratulating them on their efforts. Other students received treats, and everyone had the opportunity to ask questions and explore the snowplows.
"We are proud of the efforts and creativity shown by the winners of our contest and are happy to recognize them today," said Laughlin. "We are also proud of their classmates and others who are here to support them. This is also a great way to bring attention to our hardworking snowplow drivers and maintenance workers at the NDOT, who give their best efforts to keep our roads safe during and after winter weather."
