The USDA's National Agricultural Statistics Service released its final weekly crop progress and condition report for 2024, covering the week ending November 24. Fieldwork averaged 5.3 days during the week.
Soil Moisture Conditions
Topsoil moisture levels were rated 14% very short, 42% short, 43% adequate, and 1% surplus, showing slight improvement. Subsoil moisture followed a similar trend with 22% very short, 46% short, 32% adequate, and no surplus.
Winter Wheat Condition and Progress
Winter wheat conditions were rated 7% very poor, 12% poor, 33% fair, 45% good, and 3% excellent. Winter wheat emergence reached 95%, slightly below last year’s and the five-year average of 100%.
Sorghum Harvest Progress
Sorghum harvests neared completion at 95%, aligning closely with last year and the five-year average of 97%.
Pasture and Range Conditions
Pasture and range conditions remained challenging, with ratings of 33% very poor, 28% poor, 26% fair, 13% good, and no excellent conditions reported.
Looking Ahead
This report concludes the 2024 growing season’s weekly updates. Monthly reports will begin from December to March, with the first issued on January 6, 2025, covering the week ending January 5. Weekly updates will resume in April 2025, kicking off the new growing season.
