IFPA Backs New Roadmap for Produce Safety

IFPA Backs New Roadmap for Produce Safety

By Jamie Martin

The International Fresh Produce Association (IFPA) has welcomed the recent release of the “Roadmap to Produce Safety: A Conceptual Framework”, a report developed by the Reagan-Udall Foundation. The framework provides a strategic approach for improving the safety of fresh produce, and IFPA has applauded its collaborative approach.

The development of this roadmap is the result of a multi-stakeholder dialogue that included over 170 participants from various sectors, including government bodies, the FDA, and industry experts. These efforts reflect a shared commitment to improving produce safety through science-based solutions.

IFPA particularly highlighted the role of the FDA in facilitating the Produce Safety Dialogue process, stating that their continued involvement is crucial for advancing the initiatives outlined in the roadmap. This process brings together a range of perspectives and is designed to improve industry-wide standards for food safety.

Another important aspect of the roadmap is its call for adequate funding to ensure that stakeholders can take concrete actions based on the recommendations. IFPA has emphasized the need for resources to support practical implementation of the proposed solutions.

The association has also made it clear that it will continue to provide updates and opportunities for participation in these important industry conversations. By keeping members informed, IFPA aims to boost consumer trust in the safety and quality of fresh produce.
