Nebraska Farm Bureau Supports Stronger USMCA Trade

Nebraska Farm Bureau Supports Stronger USMCA Trade

By Scout Nelson

Nebraska Farm Bureau is encouraging the governments of the United States, Mexico, and Canada to strengthen and renew the U.S.-Mexico-Canada Agreement (USMCA), highlighting its importance to Nebraska’s agricultural economy and farm families.

Nebraska’s trade with Canada and Mexico generates a combined $3.5 billion in exports, making the two countries the state’s largest trading partners. As officials from the three nations meet to review the USMCA, Nebraska Farm Bureau emphasizes that the agreement remains one of the most important trade partnerships for the state’s farmers and ranchers.

Canada and Mexico are among the leading buyers of Nebraska corn, beef, and soybeans, together accounting for nearly half of the state’s agricultural exports. Nebraska Farm Bureau believes that while every trade agreement can be improved, renewing the USMCA is essential to protecting the long-term success of Nebraska agriculture and the thousands of farm and ranch families who depend on export markets.

The organization urges all three governments to work together to strengthen the agreement and preserve stable trade relationships that support economic growth and market opportunities. Farm Bureau leaders note that dependable access to Canadian and Mexican markets is especially important as producers continue to face financial pressures and rising production costs.

Nebraska Farm Bureau also points out that the USMCA remains one of the world’s most successful free trade agreements. Maintaining strong trade ties with Canada and Mexico is viewed as a key step toward supporting agricultural businesses, strengthening rural communities, and promoting continued growth in the farm economy.

The Nebraska Farm Bureau is a grassroots, statewide organization representing nearly 55,000 member families. The organization works to support farmers, ranchers, and rural communities through education, advocacy, and member services while promoting agriculture’s vital role in Nebraska’s economy and the well-being of all Nebraskans.
