Don't miss the upcoming Nebraska Soil Health School on April 24, hosted at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln's High Plains Ag Lab (HPAL) in Sidney. This free event, sponsored by the USDA Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS), is dedicated to enhancing practices in dryland cropping systems.
The school will feature prominent keynote speakers including Dr. David Nielsen, a retired USDA Agricultural Research Service (ARS) research agronomist, and Gary Peterson, CSU professor emeritus.
They will share their expertise on various topics such as the impact of tillage, biochar, and cover crops on soil, and soil health measurement in relation to carbon markets.
Attendees will also benefit from NRCS soil health demonstrations, including a live rainfall simulator truck presented by Carlos Villarreal, USDA-NRCS state soil scientist, and Riley Hackbart, a soil scientist with USDA-NRCS. The event includes tours of the High Plains Ag Lab research plots.
The event promises a comprehensive learning experience with 6.5 certified crop advisor CEUs available in nutrient management, soil and water management, crop management, and professional development. The day starts with check-in and refreshments at 7:30 AM and includes a smoked brisket lunch.
