Nebraska's farming future forged at harvest days

From September 10-12, the Nebraska Extension is set to make a significant impact at the 2024 Husker Harvest Days in Grand Island, Nebraska, with the theme “Forging Nebraska’s Tomorrow.”

This event, crucial for agricultural professionals and enthusiasts, will host a series of informative sessions aimed at advancing the state’s agricultural future through modern innovations and collaborative efforts.

Located at the prominent Big Red Building on 8th Street, Nebraska Extension professionals will provide expert advice across various agricultural sectors. Key highlights include strategies for enhancing landscape resilience against extreme weather, employing sustainable practices to boost soil health, and utilizing cutting-edge digital tools to increase farm productivity and profitability.

Attendees will also gain insights into effective pest management techniques that reduce environmental impacts, manure management for improved soil health, and innovative water conservation methods.

Furthermore, the event will cover essential aspects of livestock health, focusing on disease prevention and nutrition to optimize cattle herd productivity.

Additional features of Husker Harvest Days include sessions on maintaining physical and mental well-being in farm life, strategies for rural economic development, and financial planning resources aimed at securing the future of farming operations.

The Nebraska LEAD Program will also offer information on leadership development to prepare agricultural leaders to meet industry challenges.

For the younger audience, Nebraska 4-H will provide interactive displays to help youth explore various career paths and develop key employability skills. Moreover, fun activities like the UNL TAPS Extension - Crop Skills Challenge will test attendees' agricultural knowledge through competitions involving drones, crop identification, and more.
