Secure your farm’s future with transition planning

Secure your farm’s future with transition planning

By Scout Nelson

Nebraska Extension will hold a Transition Planning workshop for farmers and ranchers on Nov. 5, from 5 to 8 p.m., at the Crawford Volunteer Fire and Rescue Building. The workshop aims to equip participants with the tools and knowledge necessary to create effective estate and succession plans for their agricultural operations.

Nebraska Extension Educator Jessica Groskopf will lead the session, providing strategies to start and complete estate planning. She will discuss common mistakes made during the planning process and highlight key considerations to ensure a smooth transition of farms or ranches to the next generation.

Groskopf emphasizes the importance of acting, noting, “The common mistake is that most know that they need a transition plan to pass their farm or ranch to the next generation, but never get around to putting a plan into a legal document.”

Following the presentation, participants will have the opportunity to ask questions to an attorney or panel of estate planning professionals. Past participants often remark that they wished they had started the process sooner, highlighting the value of this educational opportunity.

This workshop is an important resource for farmers and ranchers seeking to secure their operations' future and ensure a successful transition to the next generation.
