2025 Pork industry scholarships now open

2025 Pork industry scholarships now open

By Jamie Martin

The National Pork Producers Council (NPPC) has officially opened applications for the 2025 Lois Britt Memorial Pork Industry Scholarship.

Sponsored by CME Group and the National Pork Industry Foundation, this program annually awards ten $2,500 scholarships to college students committed to careers in the pork industry and becoming future leaders.

NPPC President Lori Stevermer emphasizes the program's importance - “The strength of America’s pork industry lies in the hands of its future leaders,” she says. This initiative not only honors the memory of Lois Britt, a lifelong advocate for agriculture, but also supports the education of tomorrow's industry leaders.

To be eligible, applicants must be undergraduate students in a two-year swine program or a four-year college of agriculture. They are required to submit essays on current or future challenges facing the pork industry, along with their proposed solutions.

Scholarship winners will be announced in late January and will be recognized at the National Pork Industry Forum in Orlando, Florida.

Lois Britt, a former NPPC board director, dedicated her career to agriculture through her work at the North Carolina Cooperative Extension and later at Smithfield Hog Production. Her legacy is celebrated through this scholarship and her induction into several halls of fame, reflecting her significant contributions to the pork industry.

Applicants have until December 13, 2024, to submit their applications. For more details on the scholarship and application process Click Here and contact Jacob Sterle, NPPC Director of Industry Resource Development.
