Beef, it’s what’s for lunch on April 26 during “Beef in Schools Day” at Gothenburg High School. Representatives from Dawson County Farm Bureau and Dawson County Cattlemen, along with school administrators met to have lunch at Gothenburg High School with students that were served beef donated by Tyson Fresh Meats of Lexington. Dawson County Farm Bureau and Dawson County Cattlemen coordinated the efforts and supplied the beef to local schools to benefit their communities and connect students to agriculture.
Dawson County Farm Bureau and Dawson County Cattlemen have been donating beef agriculture for the last eight years.
“The yearly donation has been a great experience for students across the county, incorporating beef within the national school lunch program guidelines and allows students to experience a healthy school lunch as well as a great opportunity to promote the importance of agriculture in the area.” said Britt Anderson, Dawson County Farm Bureau member.
Food service coordinators were given total discretion to come up with a delicious and healthy recipe for students featuring the beef provided. Beef is a great source of the nutrients people need on a daily basis.
