Nebraska conservation society's annual meet in Scottsbluff

By Scout Nelson

The University of Nebraska-Lincoln Panhandle Research, Extension, & Education Center in Scottsbluff will host the 2024 annual meeting of the Nebraska Soil and Water Conservation Society (NSWCS) from June 11 to 13. Announced by NSWCS member and past president Robin Foulk, this event will focus on the theme "Tech Talks - Tech Walks," highlighting technological innovations in agriculture.

Each year, the NSWCS chapter selects a different Nebraska location for its meeting to engage regional members in preparing the agenda and hosting the event.

The 2024 meeting aims to cover vital topics such as Palmer amaranth control, soil health, and innovative greenhouse designs like high tunnels and geodesic structures.

A notable feature will be the Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS) trailer providing soil health demonstrations.

A key session will include a tour of the North Platte Natural Resources District’s geothermal greenhouse and Meadowlark Hearth Farms, a pioneering organic heritage seed farm.

These tours and talks are designed to provide hands-on learning experiences about sustainable farming techniques and technologies.

For more information and registration, attendees can visit the official NSWCS page. The agenda is packed with informative sessions, including presentations by experts like Jeff Edwards on greenhouse technologies and Dr. Nevin Lawrence on Palmer amaranth control, along with field tours to assess these practices firsthand.

This gathering not only promises to be an educational experience but also an opportunity for professionals to discuss the latest in agricultural technology and conservation practices, helping to shape a more sustainable future for farming.
