Nebraska Farm Bureau's President, Mark McHargue, shares insights on agriculture trends with panhandle producers, highlighting regional differences and weather challenges. He also updates on the progress of the new farm bill in Washington D.C.
In a recent meeting with members of the Nebraska Dry Bean Commission, Mark McHargue, President of the Nebraska Farm Bureau, discussed the current trends in agriculture, not only in the panhandle region but throughout the state. The discussions also covered the impact of recent severe weather on the ongoing growing season.
McHargue emphasized the diversity of cultural approaches to farming across different regions in Nebraska. Even though farmers may cultivate the same crop, their unique perspectives and work methodologies contribute to distinct farming practices.
During the meeting, McHargue also provided updates on his efforts in Washington D.C., where he is actively involved in advocating for a new farm bill. Lawmakers are currently discussing the bill, and a final completion date is yet to be determined.
While focusing on bean producers in the panhandle, McHargue's commitment extends to understanding the challenges faced by producers in various regions across the state. He plans to undertake trips throughout Nebraska to gain insights into different agricultural issues.
