Dr. Ronnie Green, former Chancellor of the University of Nebraska-Lincoln (UNL), has been presented with the prestigious Nebraska Agricultural Youth Institute's (NAYI) Award of Merit. The Nebraska Agricultural Youth Council (NAYC) members bestowed this highest honor upon Dr. Green in recognition of his commitment to agricultural education and his role in inspiring students to explore careers in the agricultural industry.
Dr. Green, who was raised on a farm in southwest Virginia, attended Virginia Tech and Colorado State University to get his B.S. and M.S. in animal science. He finished a doctoral programme in animal breeding and genetics at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln and the US Department of Agriculture's U.S. Meat Animal Research Centre.
Dr. Green's dedicated leadership began in 2010 when he assumed the role of leading UNL's Institute of Agriculture and Natural Resources. He later became UNL's chief academic officer and, in May 2016, assumed the position of UNL's 20th chancellor, a role he described as the privilege and pleasure of a lifetime.
NAYC Advisor Christin Kamm praised Dr. Green's mentorship and support, stating the Award of Merit reflects the agricultural community's appreciation for his advocacy for agriculture and education. Dr. Green's legacy has influenced numerous aspiring agricultural leaders, including NAYI delegates and Nebraska's industry professionals.
As Dr. Green embarks on his retirement, the NAYC and NAYI extend their heartfelt thanks and well wishes, recognizing his contributions to the field of agriculture and his dedication to nurturing the next generation of ag leaders.
