The Center for Agricultural Profitability at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln is set to launch "Returning to the Farm," a workshop series specially designed for families engaged in the process of integrating new generations into their farm or ranch operations. The series kicks off with a two-day event in Grand Island on December 8 and 9, held at the Bosselman Convention Center, Fonner Park.
This initiative aims to support families and agricultural businesses in crafting tailored financial plans and effective working arrangements that align with their individual needs. A key focus is on developing estate and transition plans, setting personal and professional goals, and enhancing communication within the family unit.
Jessica Groskopf, an extension educator, emphasizes the importance of this workshop in facilitating a smooth transition as more family members join the business. The program encourages attendance by two or three generations of a family to learn and initiate these crucial processes together.
The workshop will feature presentations from extension experts, along with agribusiness and legal professionals, covering several critical areas:
- Learning effective communication strategies
- Setting personal and professional objectives
- Developing a comprehensive farm or ranch transition plan
- Identifying and addressing estate planning issues
- Examining financial feasibility and tools
The registration fee is $75 per participant, which includes meals and two subsequent virtual follow-up workshops on January 11 and February 8. Participants should note that hotel accommodation is not covered in the fee.
Those interested in participating can register before December 4 at the website provided, where the workshop agenda is also available.
This series represents a significant opportunity for farm families to gain the knowledge and skills necessary for a successful generational transition in their agricultural endeavors.
