Nebraska Extension invites the community for a hands-on pasture walk on August 23rd. Held at the Eastern Nebraska Research, Extension and Education Center (ENREEC) near Mead, this event offers participants a firsthand experience of rotational grazing practices.
The event will particularly highlight the grazing of stockers and cow/calf pairs on sudangrass or a combined mix of sudangrass with sunnhemp. Not just a showcase, attendees can indulge in engaging conversations on various topics. These range from what worked and what didn't during the summer to suggestions on grazing management for maximum productivity.
The discussion will also explore the capacity of annual forages and crucial topics like prussic acid, nitrate considerations, and fertility management of annual forages.
Slated to start at 9 a.m., the walk will conclude by 11 a.m. It's an open invitation, free of cost. A word of caution: If it rains, the field might get muddy, so participants should come prepared.
Finding the field is easy. Starting from the ENREEC headquarters in Ithaca, Nebraska, one simply needs to journey east for a short distance, then head south on Ninth Street, finally turning east on County Road F. The destination is within a mile.
