The USDA's National Agricultural Statistics Service provided an update for the week ending November 19, 2023, on the state of Nebraska's agricultural activities. Farmers experienced 6. 5 days suitable for fieldwork during this period.
In terms of soil moisture, topsoil supplies were varied, with 23% rated very short and 43% adequate. Subsoil moisture supplies also showed diversity, with 28% very short and 35% adequate.
Focusing on field crops, the corn harvest reached 95%, closely aligning with the previous year's 98% and slightly above the five-year average of 93%. The condition of winter wheat was also reported, with 2% rated very poor and 16% excellent, showing a broad spectrum of crop health. Similarly, sorghum harvest was nearly on par with last year at 95%, and slightly above the average rate.
The report also included pasture and range conditions, which varied widely from 12% very poor to 29% good, and 5% excellent. These figures are crucial for farmers and stakeholders in the agricultural sector, providing insights into current crop health and progress, and aiding in decision-making and strategic planning.
