Farm bureau's wins in Nebraska legislation

Farm bureau's wins in Nebraska legislation

By Scout Nelson

The Nebraska Farm Bureau (NEFB) has had a busy season not just in the fields, but also in the corridors of power, advocating for policies that bolster Nebraska's agricultural sector. As the harvest season nears, the Bureau's focus isn't just on crops and livestock, but also on legislative achievements that promise substantial benefits for the farming community.

This summer, the NEFB played a pivotal role during a special session of the Nebraska Legislature, addressing critical issues such as escalating property taxes—a longstanding priority for our members. The efforts are set to ensure that farm and ranch families see tangible benefits, reflecting the direct influence of NEFB's policy-driven advocacy.

Looking beyond immediate challenges, NEFB is also setting the stage for future agricultural prosperity. The announcement of a new sustainable aviation fuel plant in Phelps County is a testament to our sustained policy dialogue, which is expected to inject millions into local farm economies annually.

This initiative aligns with NEFB's strategic push into the bioeconomy, ensuring that Nebraska's farmers remain at the forefront of agricultural innovation and economic opportunity.

Moreover, NEFB's influence extends beyond state borders. This year, I represented our community's interests in the governor’s trade mission, promoting Nebraska's agricultural products and fostering key international relationships. Such engagements underscore NEFB's commitment to enhancing the global competitiveness of Nebraska agriculture.

At the grassroots level, the strength of NEFB's impact is equally evident. Our local chapters continue to be vital in sculpting effective agricultural policies, underscoring the importance of active participation in policy development by our members.

As we gear up for another harvest, NEFB remains dedicated to tackling the big issues facing agriculture today, driven by a commitment to our members and the broader agricultural community.
